Akbar Javadi

Professor of Geotechnical Engineering and Head of Computational Geomechanics Group, University of Exeter, UK,Director of Education, Department of Engineering, University of Exeter, UK.Prof. Javadi's main research interest is in the field of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering in general, andComputational Geomechanicsin particular. His research projects include :geomaterials from waste to resource,modelling and control of sea water intrusion and the effects on groundwater quality,development and applications of a self-learning finite element method and so on.

报告简介

Seawater intrusion is a major problem threatening groundwater resources and the intrusion of saline water is considered a special category of pollution. In this lecture, professor will present the results of an investigation into numerical modelling and control of seawater intrusion. A transient density-dependent finite element (FE) model was developed for modelling of seawater intrusion. Also, a new cost-effective method was proposed for effective control and management of seawater intrusion in coastal aquifers. Also, a simulation-optimisation (S/O) model was developed by integrating the FE simulation model with a genetic algorithm (GA) optimisation model and was used to assess different management models and scenarios for controlling seawater intrusion. The results show that the proposed method is very effective in controlling seawater intrusion and outperforms the existing methods.
